If you thought Sam Elliott was done sorting out modern westerns, think again! In a recent appearance on WTF with Marc Maron -yeah, the same one where he went after The power of the dog – the 1883 the star revealed he wasn’t too crazy about the hit drama Yellowstone, although he starred in its prequel. Apparently, his disgust lies in his similarity to a certain beloved 80s soap opera.
“I am not a Yellowstone fan. I’m not looking Yellowstone“, Elliott said. “I like [star Kevin] Costner. There’s a lot of good people in the cast, a few of them I’ve worked with before – nothing against any of them – but it’s too much like fuck dallas or something for me.
dallas, which told the story of a Texas family struggling for control of their massive oil empire, ran for 14 seasons. In other words, the show more than rivals Yellowstone for American drama!
Elliott has made it clear he’s picky about his westerns, previously dismissing The power of the dog as an “evisceration of the American myth”.
Apparently, 1883 passed its robust criteria! the Yellowstone prequel delves into how the Dutton family first made a name for themselves, making a perilous journey from Fort Worth, Texas to Montana, where they eventually founded Yellowstone Ranch. Elliott stars as Shea Brennan, a gruff former Union Army captain who guides the Duttons along their wagon path.
So shall it be next Yellowstone prequel, 1932, earning Elliott’s blessing? This answer to that question is as unpredictable as the Wild West.
