After years on the stand-up circuit, the funny guy really made a name for himself as the stage thief best friend of Daniel Kaluuya’s character in Jordan Peele’s 2017 thriller, Get out. From there came the acclaimed train picked up speed and it was on a roll with The Carmichael Show, Issa Rae Unsafe, and even his own short lived NBC sitcom Rel. The good thing about being dope is that NBC still believed enough in Rel to hand him the keys to his new business as a game show host and executive producer.
“I’ve always wanted to host a game show and do something original and unique like ‘Small Fortune’,” Rel says. “[It’s] a huge blessing.
Growing up, Rel offered some of his favorite game shows like Family quarrel, Wheel of Fortune, and The price is right. Like these classic shows, the rules of the games are what make them stand the test of time. With Small fortune, the public will have to learn the same guidelines. The show is teams of three must work together to get the cash prize of $ 250,000 in the final game “Big Little Heist”. Groups will take care of everything from miniature playgrounds to sushi conveyor belts shrunken with tiny chopsticks. Intense focus and stable nerves are needed to win the rounds. One can be sure that Rel’s jokes will also be thrown into the fray to wow the competition.
NBC has ordered 8 episodes of high-energy antics and mini-chaos. “I had so much fun shooting this show and can’t wait for everyone to see it, ”Rel says excitedly.
Be sure to check out the show tonight, May 31 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC, and catch up with Rel’s cool dad and kids time on his Instagram page, as he spends the summer with them in Los Angeles.
