Former “Dance with the Stars” host Tom Bergeron has confirmed that his new job as a host is a game show. Here’s what we know so far.

“I won’t give you the name. It’s a game show and it’s very reminiscent of something I’ve done in the past in some ways, ”Bergeron teased.

He also revealed that they shot a pilot for the game show in June and are awaiting word from NBC that they’ve been cast for the show.

“We are waiting to know if it is picked up. We hear, as we sometimes do in Hollywood, that there is a “big buzz”. But I’m a New Englander, it’s not real until it’s real, ”Bergeron said.

He also said he considered a “good sign” that “another NBC show called and asked [him] if [he’d] be available to come and make a small appearance.

We also figured it could be “The Wheel”, a UK import that features a celebrity panel, which would explain how the show “is very reminiscent” of one of Bergeron’s past shows – it has previously animated “Hollywood Squares,” which featured a celebrity panel. But Michael McIntyre, the host of the UK version, has already been announced as the host of “The Wheel”.

So, it’s either something that hasn’t leaked at all yet, or it’s Derek Hough’s new dance show. Hough confirmed it was a TV show and Hough’s presence would most definitely help bring Bergeron on board, we think, after all their years working together on “Dancing with the Stars”. And the dancing aspect would be “very reminiscent” of “Dancing with the stars”.

But a dance performance doesn’t look like Friedman’s vein, either. So we’re really racking our brains over what that might be. Hope we find out soon!

AP: Do you miss the animation of a late night show and the forum it gave you for comedy?

Leno: It was a lot of fun. I enjoyed doing the monologue, it’s my favorite part. And I appreciate everyone that’s out there now. I watch the monologues, and I don’t watch the interviews too much, because I talked to this guy (the celebrity). But I really appreciate how hard it is to make a different version of the same joke every night. Because let’s be honest, the news doesn’t change much from one day to the next. It changes from week to week. And then you have to watch all the other shows, make sure you don’t have the same joke as Conan or Samantha Bee or whatever.

AP: You said the comedy doesn’t change, but the targets do. When you look back at the jokes that have attracted criticism, do you say ‘those were the days’ or do you scowl?

Leno: When people were in the headlines, you used to make jokes about the news. I can give you a good example. When Amy Winehouse, who was on “The Tonight Show,” sang that song on “I Won’t Go To Rehab,” there were a lot of jokes about it. I say this because my wife and I love game shows a lot, especially classics like The price is right, Wheel of Fortune and Family quarrel. And at any time, you can catch us watching any of the aforementioned TV game shows.

Apparently, we’re not alone in loving these three shows as they’re three of the country’s four most popular game shows, according to a study conducted by Coventry Direct.

The study found that Family Feud is the most popular game show here in Texas. In fact, it’s the most popular game show in more states than any other, topping the list in 10 states.

As I write this story, I realize that I have never had a game show that I considered my absolute favorite. I just have a bunch of different ones that I really like.
