Former “Dance with the Stars” host Tom Bergeron has confirmed that his new job as a host is a game show. Here’s what we know so far.
Bergeron has confirmed he is hosting a game show
Bergeron was the guest of the September 13 episode of Bob Saget’s podcast, “Bob Saget is here for you”. The two are longtime friends, dating back to when Saget appeared as a guest on the 20-year celebration episode of “America’s Funniest Videos,” which Bergeron hosted at the time.
Naturally, they mentioned the new post of host to come from Bergeron, on which the former host of “Dance with the stars” is still quite discreet. But Bergeron has confirmed one big detail: it will be a game show.
“I won’t give you the name. It’s a game show and it’s very reminiscent of something I’ve done in the past in some ways, ”Bergeron teased.
He also revealed that they shot a pilot for the game show in June and are awaiting word from NBC that they’ve been cast for the show.
“We are waiting to know if it is picked up. We hear, as we sometimes do in Hollywood, that there is a “big buzz”. But I’m a New Englander, it’s not real until it’s real, ”Bergeron said.
He also said he considered a “good sign” that “another NBC show called and asked [him] if [he’d] be available to come and make a small appearance.
We’re also not sure which sitcom he’s appearing in, but we totally agree with Bergeron that this is a good sign for the future of his new game show – NBC will certainly cross-promote the game. televised alongside the sitcom cameo.
Bergeron said it was “the best” feeling to be back on a TV set
Speaking to Saget about filming the pilot for the game show, Bergeron said he was able to make the team laugh and that was “the best” feeling.
“The most enjoyable thing for me… was getting back on stage and knowing that it was still fun, that I could still break the team. It’s important for me that the environment is good for everyone, that everyone has a good time, ”said Bergeron. “We shot on a Monday and Tuesday in June and the best response I got… one of the young production assistants came up to me and she said, ‘Everyone has
it’s a good time. And it’s a Monday! and I was like, ‘This is the best. It is the best out there.
He also said that at this point in his life he doesn’t need to work so it’s nice to be able to do something just because it’s so nice.
“At this particular point in my career, I’m just looking to have a good time. I don’t really need to host anything anymore. The only reason I accepted this particular project that we piloted was who came over and asked if I would be interested and when Harry Friedman shows up, who is Obi-Wan Kenobi like this , and he’s excited about it, that was a pretty persuasive argument and we had a great time, really. So I hope he will be selected, ”said Bergeron.
In case you didn’t know, Friedman was the longtime executive producer of “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune,” so he has quite the game show pedigree. We’re a little confused as to what the show is, however. We figured maybe this was the “Password” reboot that NBC picked you on, except it’s already picked up on the show and Bergeron said they’re waiting to hear about being caught.
We also figured it could be “The Wheel”, a UK import that features a celebrity panel, which would explain how the show “is very reminiscent” of one of Bergeron’s past shows – it has previously animated “Hollywood Squares,” which featured a celebrity panel. But Michael McIntyre, the host of the UK version, has already been announced as the host of “The Wheel”.
So, it’s either something that hasn’t leaked at all yet, or it’s Derek Hough’s new dance show. Hough confirmed it was a TV show and Hough’s presence would most definitely help bring Bergeron on board, we think, after all their years working together on “Dancing with the Stars”. And the dancing aspect would be “very reminiscent” of “Dancing with the stars”.
But a dance performance doesn’t look like Friedman’s vein, either. So we’re really racking our brains over what that might be. Hope we find out soon!
Season 30 of “Dancing with the Stars” airs Monday, September 20, 2021 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
