Gen Fricker on reality TV without guilt and avoiding the news

Your guilty pleasure in streaming?

I don’t feel guilty about any of my streaming pleasures. I love (good) reality TV, I think there’s a real craftsmanship in this type of storytelling that people often miss because they’re too busy despising the genre, or complaining about its “making”. All stories are fabricated! Everything is edited! Didion says, “screenwriters are always selling someone”, and in reality TV, it’s the same for producers, and that excites me. In this regard, I look forward to this season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hillsand The Kardashians.
