Despite a strong campaign to replace the late Alex Trebek as host of Peril!LeVar Burton hasn’t been picked as a new host, but it looks like he’ll eventually have a game show of his own. LeVar Burton has teamed up with eOne to develop a game show based on the classic board game Trivial Pursuit.
LeVar Burton will host the Trivial Pursuit game show as well as executive producer of the project. “Trivial Pursuit is one of the best-known brands in the world of video games. I am delighted to have partnered with Hasbro and eOne to bring this beloved game to market as a premium TV show,“said Burton. This is not the first time that Trivial Pursuit received the game show treatment, as a loosely based series that aired on The Family Channel from 1993 to 1994, hosted by Wink Martindale. There was also a syndicated version, Trivial Pursuit: America plays, which aired from 2008 to 2009. In a statement, Tara Long, president of Global Unscripted Television at eOne, said:
LeVar Burton has been an iconic member of American pop culture for decades Roots at Rainbow reading at Star trek and beyond. His love for intellectual curiosity coupled with his ability to connect with audiences around the world make him the perfect partner in bringing Hasbro’s beloved trivia game to households in new and exciting ways.
I sort of spent my whole life not playing Trivial Pursuit, so I’ll rely on Wikipedia for an explanation. The game finds players moving pieces around the board, the squares they land on determine what topic they will be quizzed on, ranging from entertainment, history, science, etc. Once the player has answered each category correctly, they must answer a question from a category selected by the other players in order to win the game.
