Lingo: CBS Reviving Word Game Show with RuPaul as Host – Canceled + Renewed TV Shows

Jargon arrives on CBS. The network has commissioned a revival of the word game show with RuPaul Charles as host. There have been three previous incarnations of the series. The show launched in first-run syndication in 1987 and returned for two iterations on GSN. A 2022 premiere date for the CBS incarnation will be announced later.

CBS revealed more about the revival in a press release.

“CBS has commissioned an all-new supercharged adaptation of the word-twisting, quick-thinking game show JARGON premiering in 2022. Emmy® Award-winning RuPaul Charles is the host and executive producer of the prime-time game show, where the simplest words could be worth a lot of money. The US version of the hit international format follows its global success, including its popular last run on ITV which premiered in February 2021 in the UK, where it was the highest rated game show launch of its period in almost two decades.

RuPaul Charles brings his unique personality to this prime-time order of the clever, competitive and unpredictable game, which features teams of two as they compete in quick puzzle rounds to guess letters that reveal seemingly simple words. At the end of each hour-long episode filled with witty commentary and gameplay, the two winning teams will advance to a nerve-wracking final showdown where one team walks away with an extra big prize.

“We’re all ready to have fun again, and JARGON is the answer,” said executive producer and host RuPaul Charles.

“We give you a letter, and you can guess the rest! The pun craze is sweeping the nation, and JARGON will deliver a fast-paced, fun and addictive show for the whole family,” said Mitch Graham, senior vice president of alternative programming, CBS. “RuPaul’s flair and quick wit, coupled with the ability for viewers to play at home, make this a timely show with broad appeal that we are excited to join our network lineup.”

Layla Smith, Chief Executive of Objective Media Group, added: “We are OVER the MOON to make JARGON for America with CBS and the incredible RuPaul.
