“Neighbors” Canceled; 37-year-old soap opera can’t find a new home – Michael Fairman TV


Sad news to announce, but we saw it coming. After trying to find a new home on television or digital platforms, the show’s producer, Freemantle, announced that the long-running Australian soap opera, Neighbors will come to an end.

According to Deadline, the producers tried to secure funding for the show, when it failed with its UK broadcast partner, Channel 5, in August 2021. Despite a single investment from Australia’s 10 Peach, it’s not just not enough to save her. Neighbors has experienced declining ratings in recent years.

In a statement from a Freemantle spokesperson, he said: ‘Despite a thorough search for alternative funding, we simply have no choice but to put the show on hold,’ a statement said this morning. . For our amazing and loyal fans, we know this is a huge disappointment, as it is for all of us on the team. We thank you for all of your messages and support and promise to end the show on an amazing note. From now on we celebrate Neighbors.”

Currently in Australia, Neighbors airs at lunchtime and is repeated at the start of teatime with another longtime Aussie favourite, At home and away.

It is not yet known when the last episode of Neighbors will be broadcast.

In a tweet on the show’s official Twitter account he shared, “We are truly sorry to say that after nearly 37 years and nearly 9,000 episodes aired, we must confirm that Neighbors will cease production this summer.”
