James Patrick Stuart Says “General Hospital” Feels Like A Sitcom Every Time He Does A Scene With This Actor
James Patrick Stuart currently plays Valentin Cassadine on General hospital. Valentin has been involved in many storylines for the series, which means that Stuart has been able to work with many different actors. He recently shared that doing a scene with a specific person often feels like you’re on a sitcom.
James Patrick Stuart has a diverse acting history
Before joining General hospital, Stuart has dipped his toes into various genres of showbiz.
As a child he appeared in the science fiction series Galactica 1980. In the late 1980s and early 1990s he played Will Cortlandt in the soap opera All my children. He has also appeared in many sitcoms such as Seinfeld, Frasier, The Simple Life, and 2 broken girls. Additionally, Stuart has had recurring roles in a few drama series such as POINT, CSI, and 90210.

Someone Stuart works closely with on General hospital is Amanda Setton (Brook Lynn Quartermaine). Valentine and Brook Lynn had a one night stand in 2020 and the two are now raising a child together.
According to Stuart, General hospital often feels like a sitcom when playing with Setton.
“Plus, Amanda’s done so many sitcoms that when we’re on set together it’s really contagious,” he said in a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest. “I feel like I’m back on Must-See TV Thursday nights on NBC again. When this line [about the ‘bidet situation’ in the Quartermaine mansion] came out, I felt like we were in an episode of Crazy of you or something.”

Currently, Valentin is raising a child, Bailey, with Brook Lynn. However, Bailey is actually Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) daughter Louise. Maxie gave the baby to Brook Lynn after finding out that Brook Lynn was faking her pregnancy to try to get shares in Valentine’s family business.
As it tends to happen in soap operas, sooner or later the truth often emerges. Many fans predict that Valentine won’t be happy when he finds out that “Bailey” isn’t actually his daughter.
He told Soap Opera Digest: “Playing without being informed is difficult because it’s such a weak choice of actor. That said, obviously in a soap opera situation the idea is that the very thing that was the catalyst for any change in Valentine’s life is his daughter. [Charlotte Cassadine], and the idea of him having another one is just wonderful to him. It’s going to be very tragic when he finds out the truth.
Stuart pointed out that Valentine was “arrogant and manipulative” but made amends for his past behavior. However, Stuart doesn’t know “whether this survives the betrayal” or not. It looks like it’s going to be something fans will need to tune in to find out.
