The Carolina Panthers quarterback’s situation is as fluid as the search for coaches for the USC Trojans. However, at least the Panther gig has some clarity.
Sam Darnold injured his shoulder, prompting the Panthers to bring in Matt Barkley. Days later, Darnold landed on the injured reserve list and the Panthers agreed to a homecoming with Cam Newton for a ton of cash.
Now Darnold is on the shelf and Newton will take over as soon as possible.
When – or if – Darnold returns this season remains to be seen, but if Newton plays well, it’s hard to imagine him giving up the job.
Darnold will never come back – just wait for Cam to start a game

It doesn’t help that Darnold has collapsed in recent weeks after a good start to his Panther tenure.
Newton hasn’t played a negative role all season after the New England Patriots parted ways with him just before the season, calling it a loss and sending rookie Mac Jones into the starting role.
Now the Panthers quarterback’s never-ending carousel continues to spin and hopefully for them Newton is the answer. However, this is not good news for Darnold.
With Sam Darnold out for four to six weeks with a shoulder injury, the Panthers are now adding Cam Newton to a QB hall that includes PJ Walker and Matt Barkley.

All kinds of confusion exist in Carolina. Will Newton once again become the Panthers’ permanent answer under the center?
Will they abandon Darnold completely despite signing in his fifth-year option? Nobody knows, but one thing is clear: The Panthers selecting Jaycee Horn over Justin Fields or Mac Jones is even more confusing now.
