Simon Cowell returns with a new “Walk The Line” musical game format

Veteran producer and reality TV judge Simon Cowell will return to UK broadcaster ITV with the ‘Walk The Line’ musical game format.

The format sees musical acts take the stage to perform, as well as a panel of judges led by Simon Cowell. The two best performers of the evening are then faced with a decision in their bid to be crowned champions – either return home with a cash prize or walk the line and continue playing. If they stay at the top of the rankings, they will then move on to the next show, facing a different cast of artists.

The longer artists can stay in the contest, the bigger the prize pool, with a high stakes “stay or play” moment at the end of each show. Each evening, the reigning champion will be offered an even higher cash prize.

The format is co-produced and co-developed by Syco Entertainment and Lifted Entertainment, which is part of ITV Studios, and the team behind ITV’s hits, including “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!” and “Love Island”.

“America’s Got Talent” judge and head of Syco, Cowell, was hospitalized last year after a bicycle accident. He has since recovered.

The six-part series will debut on ITV and streamer ITV Hub later this year. The global deployment of the project will be managed by ITV Studios.

Simon Cowell said, “I am delighted to be working with Lifted Entertainment and ITV on this new project. We wanted to develop a show that would give contestants a cash prize that would change their lives if they win. At every show there will be a champion who will have to make a vital decision: either to cash in on the spot, or to stay in the contest to compete again the following night for a chance to win the huge prize. It’s the kind of decision that will put viewers on the edge of their seats – true event television. I am very excited to give musical talent the opportunity to transform their lives like never before.

Katie Rawcliffe, Head of Entertainment at ITV, added, “The format created by Syco and Lifted Entertainment has all the makings of quintessential game show entertainment, but with a compelling twist in every show. It’s great to continue our working relationship with Simon and I look forward to bringing this side of your musical game to viewers later in the year.

Angela Jain, Managing Director of Lifted Entertainment, said: “It is extremely exciting to partner with Syco on this great idea but easy to understand and dramatic. We spent a few months developing the idea with them and had a blast. We want to produce a show that looks and feels different and we can’t wait for viewers to see it. “
