Soap Opera News: Soapy Primetime News Includes Shootout, Baby Abduction, and Kidnapping

The prime-time week includes fall season returns and cast updates.

The fall prime-time TV season is finally back! Soaps.com is thrilled with a few fall premieres featuring juicy soap opera storylines that air the week of September 23 for Empire is us Grey’s Anatomy a million little things and how to escape murder. There is also soap related news on Single parents, Schitt’s Creek, and Dirty rich, as well as numerous connections throughout All my children, the bold and the beautiful, the days of our lives, our passions, and the young and the restless. We look forward to all the classic soap possibilities.

25 words or less

Ali Sweeney (Sami, Days of our lives) will appear in the September 18 episode of the game show 25 words or less, which premiered on September 16. Two teams of three, including two celebrities, try to guess five words based on clues using 25 words or less. Sweeney will appear alongside Tisha Campbell, who will play Dr. Davis in The Bold and the Beautiful and magician Penn Teller. Based on the board game, the Meredith Vieira (Who Wants to Be a Millionaire) the animated series is produced by Vieira, Lisa Kudrow (Friends), Dan Bucatinsky (Scandal) and Mary McCormack (The children are fine). In her Instagram post, Sweeney said of her appearance: “Be warned if you don’t already know me very well – – I’m all for embarrassing myself to win. Ask @tishacampbellmartin she knows. Empire

The final season of FOX’s musical family drama premieres on September 24. Season 6 will resume following André Lyon (Trai Byers, All my children) receiving a heart transplant from his recently discovered half-brother who shot himself in the head in front of their father Luscious Lyon (Terrence Howard), who is once again estranged from Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson). As has been widely reported, Jussie Smollett who played Jamal Lyon will not be part of the final season, but our sister site Deadline says Keesha Sharp will do it. The lethal Weapon alum will play Dr Paula Wick, “a smart, insightful woman who offers endless compassion but doesn’t take shit from anyone.”

It’s us

At the end of Season 3, questions revolved around the health fate of Rebecca Pearson Rivas (Mandy Moore), the whereabouts of Miguel Riva and Kate Pearson, and Kevin Pearson’s mother (Justin Hartley, Adam Newman, The young and the restless; Fox crane, Passions) future son. Season 4 trailer doesn’t give much, but it reveals It’s us, which debuts on September 24, will feature new characters played by Jennifer Morrison (Once upon a time), Omar Epps (Shooter, M. Night Shyamalan (Glass) and Nick Wechsler (Shades of blue).

Grey’s Anatomy

Season 15 has left viewers on a few cliffhangers that the Season 16 premiere will hopefully respond to as what happens to Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) after his arrest, is Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) alive, and Meredith Gray (Ellen Pompeo), Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) and Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) get their jobs back? Season 6 premieres on September 26. Then look for October 10 to reunite the alumni Charm stars Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs on last week’s ABC show. In the episode titled reunited, two sisters must decide whether or not to keep their other sister alive after an accident left her brain dead.

A million little things

ABC drama creator and showrunner DJ Nash premiered Deadline this A Million Little Things season 2 will result in the death of a character viewers have already met and “the theme is related to family, and the mystery of the start of next season is said to be related to a new recurring character played by Jason Ritter” (Kevin (probably) saves the world). It will also pick up with Delilah Dixon (Stephanie Szostak) giving birth to baby Eddie Saville (David Giuntoli), which his ex-wife Katherine Kim (Grace Park) will learn about during the season premiere on September 26. The past will bring Jerry Ferrara (To be able to) to find his Think like a man co-starring Romany Malco. In the episode titled Mixed signals Malco’s character meets an old producer friend (Ferrara?) How to get away with a murder

ABC’s death drama season 5 ended with Laurel Castillo (Karla Souza) seemingly kidnapped as Annalize Keating (Viola Davis) ‘s back was turned and Laurel’s baby was ripped off as well. Single parents

While not a soap opera per se, the ABC sitcom will star Adam Brody from the teen soap opera. CO reprising his role in the comedy starring his wife Leighton Meester from another teen soap opera, Gossip Girl. Brody previously played Meester’s character ex on Single parents. The actual duo will air together on the show about an eclectic group of single parents forming a kind of support group on October 9 as part of ABC’s Reunion Week.

Schitt Creek

Again, not a soap opera, but the matriarch of the Rose family from comedy Moira (Catherine O’Hara) is best known as the former fictional soap opera star Sunrise bay. Also, we love the original series about a titled, formerly wealthy family that hits rock bottom and must rebuild themselves by living in a motel in town that they once bought as a gag. The premiere of the 6th and final season of Schitt Creek was recently announced for January 7 on CBC in Canada and Pop TV in the US

Dirty rich

This soaptastic sounding drama from FOX, starring Kim Cattrall (Sex and the city), began filming in New Orleans on September 13. The show centers on a Southern family who have to deal with three heirs hitherto unknown to the Patriarch (Gerald McRaney, It’s us) The fortune of the Christian television network when he died suddenly in a plane crash. Through Deadline, Broadway actor Aaron Laz has replaced Steven Pasquale (which was also a redesign of the pilot but suddenly had to “drop out for personal reasons a week before production started.”) as a popular minister for the network. Dirty rich will be presented in mid-season.
