Manchester United fans are once again furious with their club captain Harry Maguire. He apparently liked an Instagram post that claimed Cristiano Ronaldo would be getting a big pay cut.

The Manchester Evening News (reported via a SPORTbible post on Instagram) claimed Ronaldo was upset with the 25% pay cut all players have received. This is due to the Red Devils failing to qualify for the Champions League last season.

The post calculated that the legendary Portuguese striker would see his £480,000 salary reduced to £360,000 a week.

Athletic reported on Sunday, July 3, that Cristiano Ronaldo had told Manchester United to let him go if a suitable offer came his way. His desire to win more trophies as well as United’s perceived lack of ambition are cited as reasons for his impending departure.

Club captain Maguire liked the SPORTbible post, which enraged several fans. It gave them the impression that the 29-year-old wouldn’t be too upset to see the superstar striker’s back.

Maguire has already drawn the ire of Manchester United supporters in recent years due to his poor performances on the pitch. Many believe the England centre-back should be sold by the club.

Here are some of Twitter’s best reactions to the England defender’s apparent endorsement of Cristiano Ronaldo’s displeasure:

It is essential that Harry Maguire be relieved of his duties as captain for the new season…

Maguire needs to go ASAP He has so much pride and arrogance for someone who has done nothing in the game https://t.co/hQcTYs8VcS

Hi buddy @HarryMaguire93 For future reference, Cristiano Ronaldo won this club 3 PL, one CL and 3 other cups. You’ve broken over 40 negative records and have the club on its longest trophyless run in half a century. Know your fucking place. I hope this helps you twitter.com/markgoldbridge…

This Harry Maguire cost us £80million and he brought nothing but pain and disappointment. He needs to get out of my club

I’ve never hated a footballer (or even a human being) more than I hate Harry Maguire. If it’s between him or Ronaldo, I know where my loyalty lies. The club is dead to me if he is our captain next season

Ex-Liverpool midfielder thinks Cristiano Ronaldo departure could suit Manchester United

Danny Murphy has claimed Ronaldo’s apparent desire to leave Old Trafford could benefit all parties, especially new manager Erik ten Hag.

The player-turned-pundit told the Mirror:

“It could suit both sides in the end. There are obviously a lot of factors around that. How do they replace Ronaldo’s goals? Who do they bring in? That’s key. If they can find someone one who they believe is capable of fulfilling this role if he were to leave, that would suit both of them.”

He added:

“There is of course another factor in that, how does Ten Hag want to play? Does he want to press forward and play high energy and high tempo? If he does then of course it’s not conducive to what Ronaldo wants to do because of his age and in his time of life he wants to save his energy to run errands when they have the ball and use his energy to score goals and win matches. That’s also a factor.”

Cristiano Ronaldo also didn’t turn up for Man United training today, telling the club he was still ‘struggling with a personal/family issue’ 🔴🇵🇹 #MUFCJorge Mendes, exploring options to find an official proposal as soon as possible. Man Utd, still in the same position. https://t.co/OuCfiFtIWy

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner scored 24 times in 38 appearances last season after returning to Old Trafford after 12 years. However, he missed the first three days of pre-season training as the club are unsure whether he will be part of their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia (per Daily Mail).
